Master DOC Skimmer

Evolution.

The characteristic features of the Master DOC skimmer model series are primarily ergonomics and efficiency. It is an efficient unit, which represents a real technical evolution of today's protein skimmers for aquariums. Master DOC skimmer has been designed for the use in aquarium cabinets and can make do with a variable water level without interruption of the foam production. The high air output is beneficial especially for heavy stocking density in aquariums of sensitive hard corals. In a complete filter system, they can also be used as a stand-alone unit. Absolute plug and skim: After the installation and connection of the Hydrofoamer, the units are operational !

In order to use the water energy at the outlet of the skimmer, all Master DOC skimmers are fitted with a removable post-filter which carries out a perfect mechanical filtration through 50µm acrylic wadding fibres with little biological action. This ensures that no unwanted nutrient and nitrate sources develop in case of longer cleaning intervals. The post-filter can also be filled with other filter media, such as activated carbon or phosphate absorbers; the filter can be replaced easily.

Skimmer cup with large capacity; also contains the foam reactor; can be removed easily.

The removable post-filter at the outlet of the skimmer permits perfect mechanical filtration through 50 µm acrylic wadding fibres with little biological action. This ensures that no unwanted nutrient and nitrate sources develop in case of longer cleaning intervals. The filter can be filled with other filter media, such as activated carbon or phosphate absorber.

Four suction feet ensure good stability and prevent vibrations in the filter chamber (only in models 9420 and 9440).

Every Hydrofoamer contains a silencer located directly at the air suction point. Thus, the skimmer is the quietest on the market in this category.

TUNZE® Hydrofoamer Silence 9420.04 is a pump specifically developed for protein skimmers. The Hydrofoamer generates large volumes of fine air bubbles with a diameter of between 0.1 to 0.3 mm (.0039 to .011 in.). It has an energy consumption of only 16 W at an air output of 850 l/h (224.5 USgal./h) which places this air generator at the top of its product class. At a water flow of 1,300 l/h (343 USgal./h), it is also used to supply the aquarium water to the skimmer.

Intermediate chamber with phase water: The patented Anti-Overfoaming System prevent an overfoaming of the skimmer and regulates the skimming action according to surface tension of the aquarium water and water level. The skimmer operates independently and automatically sets its best efficiency.

Nipple for ozone connection. Ozone improves the skimming process and at the same time removes any yellowing matter in the aquarium water.

The advantages of the “anti-overfoaming system”

The patented “anti-overfoaming system” prevents overfoaming of the skimmer, which occurs, for example, in the following situations:
Organic load caused by dead animal and plant residue or living stones in a newly set-up aquarium.
Increase of the water level in the filter tank.
Use of chemicals, corals, et cetera.

“Anti-foaming system” in three steps:

After the improvement of the water parameters, the skimmer returns to the normal operating condition again.

Normal foam production: The foam rises constantly into the foam reactor; all water levels are ideal for a maximum skimming performance.

Overfoaming A: Due to the surface tension, the foam production increases; the water in the intermediate chamber rises; the water enters the compensation outlet and draws the air bubbles out of the foam reactor. Thus, the foam volume in the reactor reduces itself.

Overfoaming B: The foam production continues to rise, which also applies for the water level in the intermediate chamber, and then enters the air passage of the Hydrofoamer: The bubble production is stopped immediately; the foam production is reduced.

The models of the Master DOC skimmer are easily placed in aquarium cabinets with variable level and need no adjustment for operation. They operate in conjunction with TUNZE® Hydrofoamer 9420.04, which provides the foam production and water circulation at the same time. Depending on the model, the open water circuit thus reaches a water throughput of 1,300 l/h (343 USgal./h), 2,600 l/h (686 USgal./h), 3,900 l/h (1,030 USgal./h) or 5,200 l/h (1,373 USgal./h). The models 9420 (1) / 9440 as well as 9460 / 9480 have the same technical features, only the number of Hydrofoamers varies. Skimmer cup and foam reactor are one unit like in all TUNZE® DOC skimmers: Every cleaning of the skimmer cup leads to the reactor being cleaned at the same time, and thus a very constant and efficient foam production is ensured. During the cleaning process, the Hydrofoamer remains operational and automatically flushes the air passages.
Delivery condition: Ready to mount; dimensions with the cleaning accessories.
